We’re proud to announce that the Swan School has received an Oxford Preservation Trust Award.
The project is Oxford’s first new secondary school in 60 years. In addition to being located within the green belt, the 6FE school also lies within a Conservation Area. As a result, we made sure to respond to the setting sensitively along with satisfying the needs and interests of the community.
Headteacher Kay Wood praised the buildings setting as it offers “staff and pupils a welcoming, light-filled, spacious and flexible environment in which to work and study”.
Our design responds carefully to its sitting and encourages widespread sustainability. We provided 700 bike spaces to encourage sustainable transport. Efforts to minimise embodied carbon was additionally addressed with the use of low carbon materials such as timber cladding.
Kay Wood went on to call our design “thoughtful, inclusive and sustainable” and that our knowledge and expertise “resulted in a 21st-century school that we and the community can take immense pride in.”
